CoupleDumb’s Golden Globe Predictions

The Golden Globes are on tonight and, let me just say, I am so excited to see Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosting. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Ricky Gervais. I just got a little tired of waiting to see who he would insult. Enough with the banter, you are here to see my predictions, as you are every year. This year is no different in that I still have kids and getting to see all the movies is a little tough. I can see I have seen some of them and some….well let’s just say, I have no interest in ever seeing.

Nominees for Best Picture, Drama: “Argo”, “Django Unchained”, “Life of Pi”, “Lincoln”, “Zero Dark Thirty”

Predictions: I haven’t seen any of these. My prediction for this has less to do with film making and more to do with a lack of understanding of our own history. I doubt people remember the Iran Hostages (remember…bunch of Americans taken hostage in Iran…thus the name “Iran Hostages”) so Argo is out. Django is impossible to pronounce and people are confused by the badass black guy theme during slavery times. It is vaguely reminiscent of Mandingo minus the sex and obvious racial overtones. Life of Pi- they took a boring book and spruced it up with a CGI kitty. Nope. Lincoln looks good but they end it with the only part that most Americans remember (SPOILER)- he gets shot. My bet is “Zero Dark Thirty”- why? We killed OSAMA BIN LADEN! See?! That’s fresh in our mind.

Best Picture, Musical or Comedy: “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, “Les Misérables”, “Moonrise Kindgom”, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”, “Silver Linings Playbook”

I actually saw three of these ( and wanted to see the other two). I loved the three I saw. However, Les Mis was too big to ignore. I can sum up the movie in a few words: crying, bad haircuts, crying and singing. Marigold and Moonrise were cute but they didn’t make me cry.

Best Director: Ben Affleck, “Argo”, Kathryn Bigelow, “Zero Dark Thirty”, Ang Lee, “Life of Pi”, Steven Spielberg, “Lincoln”, Quentin Tarantino, “Django Unchained”

I will predict Kathryn Bigelow because she’s a woman and I support all women and that’s how I roll and do you have a problem with that?

Best Actor, Drama: Daniel Day-Lewis, “Lincoln”, Richard Gere, “Arbitrage”, John Hawkes, “The Sessions”, Joaquin Phoenix, “The Master”, Denzel Washington, “Flight”

I heard lots of good stuff. I watched Richard Gere in Arbitrage and he was really good. However, I heard Daniel Day Lewis unearthed Lincoln’s ashes and snorted them before every take to embody his spirit or something like that. So you have to give it to him for being crazy and methody.

Best Actress, Drama: Jessica Chastain, “Zero Dark Thirty”, Marion Cotillard, “Rust and Bone”, Helen Mirren, “Hitchcock”, Naomi Watts, “The Impossible”, Rachel Weisz, “The Deep Blue Sea”

Didn’t watch any of these chicks so I’m going to get all patriotic and go for the American. Jessica Chastain for the win!

Best Actor, Musical or Comedy:  Jack Black, “Bernie”, Bradley Cooper, “Silver Linings Playbook”, Hugh Jackman, “Les Miserables”, Ewan McGregor, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”, Bill Murray, “Hyde Park on Hudson”

I’m partial to Hugh Jackman. O.K., I’ll be honest, Wolverine is my boyfriend. When that guy sings in the church in the beginning of the movie and he’s all emaciated and that haircut and he blows a snot bubble …all I could say was “I’ll take care of you, Wolverine!”

Best Actress, Musical or Comedy: Emily Blunt, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”,Judi Dench, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, Jennifer Lawrence, “Silver Linings Playbook”, Maggie Smith, “Quartet”, Meryl Streep, “Hope Springs”

Ooh, I saw two of these chicks! Meryl and Judi….love them. Then again, I really like all the women in this category. I’ll say Jennifer Lawrence because she can shoot an arrow and all these other chicks have won something.

Best Supporting Actor: Alan Arkin, “Argo”, Leonardo DiCaprio, “Django Unchained”, Philip Seymour Hoffman, “The Master”, Tommy Lee Jones, “Lincoln”, Christoph Waltz, “Django Unchained”

Hmmm, I know who I don’t want to win (Baby faced DiCaprio-yuck!). I’m going old school and saying  Arkin or Jones. I’m leaning towards Arkin but think Jones will take it.

Best Supporting Actress: Amy Adams, “The Master”, Sally Field, “Lincoln”, Anne Hathaway, “Les Miserables”, Helen Hunt, “The Sessions”, Nicole Kidman, “The Paperboy”

Seriously?! Anne Hathaway- come on people, is this really a choice?!

Best Animated Feature Film: “Brave”, “Frankenweenie”, “Hotel Transylvania”, “Rise of the Guardians”, “Wreck-It Ralph”

I’m going to say Brave. It was a beautiful movie.

Best Original Song: “For You” – “Act of Valor”, “Not Running Anymore” – “Stand Up Guys”, “Safe & Sound” – “The Hunger Games”, “Skyfall” – “Skyfall”, “Suddenly” – “Les Miserables

Skyfall- Adele…do I need to explain this?

Best Television Series, Drama: “Breaking Bad”, “Boardwalk Empire”, “Downton Abbey: Season 2”, “Homeland”, “The Newsroom”

Newsroom is the best written and acted show on TV. It blew me away last summer. I lurved it with all my heart.

Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical: “The Big Bang Theory”, “Episodes”, “Girls”, “Modern Family”, “Smash”

I’m married to a physicist. Big Bang, of course.

Best Miniseries or Television Movie: “Game Change”, “The Girl”, “Hatfields & McCoys”,”The Hour”, “Political Animals”

The Girl was disturbing but not as disturbing as Game Change. Julianne Moore embodied the idiocy of Sarah Palin. I’m going with ‘The Girl’.

Best Actor, Television Drama: Steve Buscemi, “Boardwalk Empire”, Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad”, Jeff Daniels, “The Newsroom”, Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”, Damian Lewis, “Homeland”

Jeff Daniels is mesmerizing in Newsroom. LOVE HIM!

Best Actress, Television Drama: Connie Briton, “Nashville”, Glenn Close, “Damages”, Claire Danes, “Homeland”, Michelle Dockery, “Downton Abbey”, Juliana Margulies, “The Good Wife”

Juliana cause I love that show.

Best Actor, Television Comedy or Musical: Alec Baldwin, “30 Rock”, Don Cheadle, “House of Lies”, Louis C.K., “Louie”, Matt LeBlanc, “Episodes”, Jim Parsons, “The Big Bang Theory”

Jim Parsons makes me laugh on a weekly basis.

Best Actress, Television Comedy or Musical: Zooey Deschanel, “New Girl”, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep”, Lena Dunham, “Girls”, Tina Fey, “30 Rock”, Amy Poehler, “Parks and Recreation”

I would really like to see a cat fight between Amy and Tina.

Best Supporting Actor: Max Greenfield, “New Girl”, Ed Harris, “Game Change”, Danny Huston, “Magic City”, Mandy Patinkin, “Homeland”, Eric Stonestreet, “Modern Family”

Eric Stonestreet- love him.

Best Supporting Actress: Hayden Panettiere, “Nashville”, Archi Panjabi, “The Good Wife”, Sarah Paulson, “Game Change”, Maggie Smith, “Downtown Abbey”, Sofia Vergara, “Modern Family

This category is bullshit. How do you put Archi with Sofia?? Cat fight time.

Enjoy the show tonight. I will be watching with 3 very bored guys. Woohoo!
