CoupleDumb’s 2013 Oscar Predictions

And the winner is Iron Man because he is awesome

It’s that time of year again! A time when CoupleDumb rolls out the couch and brings in the movie seats to share our OSCAR PREDICTIONS!!!

We have been doing this for years now and nowadays we are actually watching the movies! So before you start arguing that some is not all, here are our predictions!

Best Picture Nominees: “Amour”, “Argo”, “Beasts Of The Southern Wild”, “Django Unchained”, “Les Misérables”,”Life Of Pi”, “Lincoln”, “Silver Linings Playbook”, “Zero Dark Thirty”- We saw 7 of the 9 nominees (not bad considering one year we saw 0 out of 5). Lots of great movies this year. We loved most of these but will have to say that Lincoln was fascinating only in that the current political climate resembles that time. The only thing missing was Boehner crying. We will have to go with Argo for the win on this one. It was exciting, fast paced and the acting was superb!

Actor In A Leading Role Nominees: Bradley Cooper, “Silver Linings Playbook”, Daniel Day-Lewis, “Lincoln”, Hugh Jackman, “Les Misérables”, Joaquin Phoenix, “The Master”, Denzel Washington, “Flight”- The only performance we didn’t watch was Joaquin Phoenix but we did see “I’m still here” and after that we pray for him every night. I think Bradley Cooper or Hugh Jackman should win because they were great and they are my secret boyfriends. Unfortunately, the Academy tends to reward English Actors who play historical figures so Daniel Day Lewis will win.

Actress In A Leading Role Nominees: Jessica Chastain, “Zero Dark Thirty”,Jennifer Lawrence, “Silver Linings Playbook”, Emmanuelle Riva, “Amour”, Quvenzhané Wallis, “Beasts Of The Southern Wild”, Naomi Watts, “The Impossible”- This one is really easy. Jennifer Lawrence for the win! I saw her eat a squirrel in Winter’s Bone so give her the Oscar for dancing badly.

Actor In A Supporting Role Nominees: Alan Arkin, “Argo”, Robert De Niro, “Silver Linings Playbook”, Philip Seymour Hoffman, “The Master”, Tommy Lee Jones, “Lincoln”, Christoph Waltz, “Django Unchained”- Look, this is the toughest category this year. Forget what you heard. DeNiro was O.K. but Arkin, Jones and Waltz KILLED! If I had my druthers I would split it with all three. I think Jones will win but Waltz deserves it more.

Actress In A Supporting Role Nominees: Amy Adams, “The Master”, Sally Field, “Lincoln”, Anne Hathaway, “Les Misérables”, Helen Hunt, “The Sessions”, Jacki Weaver, “Silver Linings Playbook”- Yeah, this one is way easy. Anne Hathaway for the win with a side of fries and a chocolate shake because Oh dear God woman you need a sandwich!

Animated Feature Film Nominees: “Brave”, “Frankenweenie”, “ParaNorman”, “The Pirates! Band Of Misfits”, “Wreck-It Ralph”- I liked Paranorman but I think Brave will take the prize this year. I am a sucker for Scottish accents.

Cinematography Nominees: Seamus McGarvey, “Anna Karenina”, Robert Richardson, “Django Unchained”, Claudio Miranda, “Life Of Pi”, Janusz Kaminski, “Lincoln”, Roger Deakins, “Skyfall”- Easy one, too! Life of Pi was beautiful. Richard Parker is a badass kitty.

Directing Nominees: Michael Haneke, “Amour”, Benh Zeitlin, “Beasts Of The Southern Wild”, Ang Lee, “Life Of Pi”, Steven Spielberg, “Lincoln”, David O. Russell, “Silver Linings Playbook”- Yeah, Affleck was screwed. I would be predicting Affleck on this one if he hadn’t been royally shafted. I will say David O Russell because I don’t think Spielberg deserved it.

Music (Original Song) – Easy- Skyfall- Adele- Need I say more.

Writing (Adapted Screenplay) -David O. Russell, “Silver Linings Playbook”- Funny, smart!

Writing (Original Screenplay) – Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola, “Moonrise Kingdom”- If you haven’t seen this movie, do it now. It was amazing, funny, great, uncomfortable, wild and all together awesome!
