50 Things I have learned in 50 years – Day 8
Over the next 50 days, I will be going over the 50 things that I have learned to make my life awesome. I know people are always doing these but so few of them have a PhD and 25+ years of experience working with human beings on what they want and changing the things they don’t like. Here is my list which will culminate on my 50th birthday.
I know you’re thinking, ‘these seem awfully tame for CoupleDumb’. Which brings me to #8.
For everything there is a season…..but seriously, just do it.
I was having a pleasant conversation with a very intelligent woman and we were discussing research and teaching. The conversation turned to children and how her husband wanted another. Her concern was time. She felt that with everything going on in her life, she had no time. A lot of people are concerned with time. There is no time for this or that. Life is too short and oh, how I wish I could have blah blah blah.
Just do it!
Like I said to this brilliant woman, “never let time be a consideration.” The beauty of adulthood is doing what we want but instead we mire ourselves in ‘have tos’ and “should” and ‘ought tos’. Instead of making memories, we are making long term plans for that retirement. Instead of throwing caution to the wind, we are life proofing our daily living. Instead of going on adventures, we are trying to establish roots. Instead of being human beings, we are constantly human doings. We have more in common with trees than people.
Be happy and have adventures. Life is too short to worry about how much time you have.
Come back for the next 42 days and see what else I have learned.
