50 Things I have learned in 50 years – Day 39
There are a couple weeks until I turn 50. As we enter December and my 50th birthday looms like the shiny lights all over my house, I feel even more compelled to share what I have learned. Sure, some lessons have been better than others but lessons learned nonetheless.
I know you’re thinking, ‘Did you learn anything about life and stuff?’ Which brings me to #39
Learn to say ‘no’……but say ‘yes’ to things that scare you.
As we age, we tend to get scared. It is a natural progression of understanding how life works. When you are young, you are blissfully ignorant to mortality. As you get older, you become aware of Father Time and the loud ticking in the background.
To be clear, I will not be bungee jumping anytime soon but I will not rule out the possibility. Do not shut the door on possibilities. Being a scientist makes you aware that 99.9% leaves some wiggle room. Wiggle room is where possibilities breed. Always keep a little wiggle room because you never know.
Come back for the next 11 days and see what else I have learned.
