Celebrity Shout-Out : Annie Lennox and SING

Oh no! What do we do? It’s Wednesday and we usually take major liberties and smackdown witless celebrities but we are in the middle of naughty and nice week and we need to behave. So, for the rest of the month, we will change Celebrity Smackdown to Celebrity Shout Out where we spotlight celebrities who embody a spirit of giving. We will focus on celebrities who remember that we are all in this together and understand their relationship to the world.

Changing the focus of Wednesday is a little sad for us. We enjoy smacking down what we see as stupid, reckless and irresponsible behavior. However, in changing things up for this month, it is allowing us to write about something uplifting. The celebrity we chose for the first shout out is Annie Lennox. Sure, anyone who has met Lee knows that she has been a big fan of hers for many years. Lee could probably do a shout out for her just based on her talent but I would be missing a larger opportunity. The real shout out is to Annie Lennox’s SING campaign which was started to help prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa and helps those already living with it. These funds also go towards prevention of Mother–to-Child transmission. The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness as well.

Consider this the CoupleDumb pledge that for the next 365 days, we will dedicate a space on our website to the SING fund. We will stand in solidarity with Annie Lennox and Treatment Action Campaign to raise awareness, dismiss the stigma and fight the good fight against HIV/AIDS. Annie Lennox has inspired us with her generosity and commitment. Check out the website and take action too. Post a button on your Facebook or Myspace. Tweet it. Get the word out. HIV/AIDS is still around and is consuming an entire nation while the rest of the world turns a blind eye. We are a world in crisis and we must remember to love our neighbor this season. WE ARE HIV POSITIVE! Take a moment to watch the video and read up on the SING fund.
