CoupleDumb tries to live with integrity and works hard not to offend unnecessarily. It is with this idea that we tend to avoid giving our opinion on other relationship ‘experts’. When some ‘experts’ garner success and notoriety because their message has struck a chord with the general population, we try to support and be happy for them. However, some of these people’s idea of providing expert advice on the topic of relationships is a simplistic belief system that would do more to hurt a relationship than help. One of these offerings is the book, “The 5 Languages of Love” by Dr. Gary Chapman. This week I am going to dissect his ideas and why these concepts are actually a superficial understanding of the relationship dynamic. Today let me focus on the writer.Read more
We have said a million times, between the two of us, we know everything. Seriously! One of us was all science and math guy and the other was all touchy-feely, Sylvia Plath and Jung. With the added interests in religion and entertainment, we pretty much cover every area of life perhaps with the exception of some pygmy tribe in the Congo. We can speak intelligently about a lot of things but one of our favorite subjects is FOOD! We can talk about food all day long with breaks only for snacks.Read more
Steubenville Ohio up until recently was a little city on the Ohio River with less than 20,000 residents. For most of us in this country unless we really followed High School football, it was a little inconsequential town. For the high school football world, Steubenville had the 20th most winningest high school football teams in the country. I write this as we anticipate the announcement of the new Pope. I see Vatican Square replete with people who are excited and exuding joy over a new beginning. It is a beautiful sight to see in the midst of a historical moment in time. It is amazing that in the middle of all the scary things in the world, as human beings we can generate this much energy from the happiness of being hopeful.Read more

This week we are talking about kids and the realities of parenting. Those without children are blessed with the fact that they don’t have to care for something that has no concept of how to care for itself except for a pet but I am pretty sure my dogs can handle themselves in a crowded mall better than my kids. However, at the end of the day, kids are a blessing wrapped in poop and stinkiness and frustration and incredible cuteness. Don’t believe us? Check out what some of our friends and fellow bloggers have to say about this.Read more
Ben Affleck was very excited when he won the Oscar for Best Picture. While thanking everyone, he thanked his wife, Jennifer Gardner. Was it your usual gushy ‘I love you, Baby!’ kind of tripe? No. He said, “I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s good, it is work, but it’s the best kind of work, and there’s no one I’d rather work with.” The world gasped! How dare he reveal that marriage is work? Why not just give us the pabulum and move on!Read more
Another tragedy. Another death of a famous person. The first course of action for people is to look for who is to blame. That seems par for the course, right? Someone takes their own life and then the surviving family, fans and media need to find the culprit who pushed the star to their death. Who is the perpetrator of this heinous crime, according to the media and fan sites? Celebrity Rehab. Yes, according to the media, Dr. Drew Pinsky and Celebrity Rehab are responsible for the death of Mindy McCready, Joey Kovar, Rodney King, Mike Star and Jeff Conoway. That is what they are saying and we know that ‘they’ are always right.Read more
