I do. Do you?

Welcome to a new week! These last few weeks have been tough with kids going back to school, the traffic that comes from kids returning to the daily grind and just getting used to summer being over. We know that all the changes in our household have created some intense anxiety in all of us. One kid starting her senior year and filling out college applications, one kid starting ‘real school’ or first grade and the youngest starting school for the first time. We’ve been dealing with the jitters for a few weeks now and we think we know a thing or two about cold-feet in this household.

Adversity

Hola Friends and Lovers! Welcome to CoupleDumb and this exciting, fun-filled week. Is it working? You see we are going to be discussing adversity this week and we figured we should provide you with a little distraction so you won’t notice we are talking about uncomfortable topics. Come on, most people refuse to even discuss things like loss, pain and family upheaval. Are you still with us?

An Educational Attitude

As the summer vacation comes to an end, we need to focus on the new school year. This upcoming academic year elicits some bitter-sweet emotions for us. Mainly, we have one child beginning his education in PK3, one entering first grade and one graduating from high school. All three will experience a different kind of education than they have ever experienced. As parents, our role as support and advocate remains. But what about this education they are about to receive? Is it worth all this grief?

Perfect, Imperfect Parenting

Last week we discussed the things we do to mess up relationships. This week, in honor of the grand opening of ParentDumb.com, the premiere parenting website from the same geniuses who brought you this incredible site, we will do for parenting what we do for relationships. Because let’s face it, more stupid things happen in the world of parenting than anywhere else. So let us welcome ParentDumb with open arms and refer all your friends, family and acquaintances to the party.

Sigh, Why Bother?

Another Monday, we think. This summer has us blending our days so much we are missing appointments. Our 6 year old is constantly asking us, ‘what day is it?’ Our answers come slowly and only after we check our Google Calendars. It’s bad. We could understand it if we weren’t actually working. We are still spending most days writing or researching or pretending to work while playing Mafia Wars on Facebook. It must be the incredible bliss of all the togetherness we are sharing. We thought we would not tax ourselves too much and write about why we started this site in the first place. That’s right! We are talking about CoupleDumb this week!

Love is an overstuffed sofa.

We just had a weekend where we had nothing to do. Sure we had to do laundry, clean up and handle some writing and website duties but we had nothing to do outside of our home. We had nothing to yank us out of bed before we would naturally get up. Do you understand how incredibly awesome that is? Do you get that weekends like that don’t happen very often in CoupleDumb land? It made for a relaxing weekend spent in loungewear ranging from Lee’s flowing dress to Paul’s shorts that hardly need to be removed to go to the bathroom. Ah, comfy!

What’s love?

We are not negative people. On the contrary, we are very positive, happy and uplifting people in a cynically funny sort of way. So this week we decided to take a turn for the better and, after spending two weeks debunking the love myths, write about everything that love is. The good news is that we do not need two weeks to write all of the positive things about love because people that find love and recognize it for the beautiful thing that it is do not usually need to invent stupid stuff to screw it up. It takes creativity and imagination to really screw something up. Oh oh, there is the cynical coming out. Back to our peaceful Zen state of love.

More Relationship Myths

Have you heard the urban legend that says all guys and girls are the same? Yeah, it goes something like a guy and a girl are in their car making out in a remote part of a forest. She hears a noise and breaks off a kiss to say ‘What was that?’ The guy, a total stud, by the way, says ‘Nothing but the beat of my heart, Baby’. She buys that stupid explanation and continues her pre-fornication rituals.

Does love hurt or is it a gas bubble?

CoupleDumb wanted to take a second and send love and felicitations to all the fathers, stand up guys and Mamas out there that do Daddy duty for a child. Thank you for giving of yourself and being there for a kid. We hope your Daddy’s Day was everything that you deserved! Now to business! What’s going on? It struck us last week that we needed to get some focus. We have the kids home for summer and since we would need to sell a kidney and retina to pay for summer camp, they are firmly wedged up our ass while we try to bring you gem-posts like usual.
