You Should Read This

In the words of Monty Python, ‘…and now for something completely different.’ As we end should week here at CoupleDumb, we thought that we would give you a little something to look at instead of actually doing any work. So here are some of our favorite ‘shoulds’ and the research that shows how incredibly stupid they are. Yes, these shoulds are all wrong.

Married Crazy

Thank God it’s finally Friday! Yes, TGIFF! Where the extra ‘F’ is not what you automatically think it is. You are so nasty! Anyways, we are talking about success this week but mainly looking at how we react to it. As we have mentioned, we aren’t very good about it. This doesn’t seem to stop us from working at it 24/7.

You can go home again

How do I distill a two week vacation with multiple reunions into one simple post? This is the question I have been asking myself since I arrived, with my family, in Los Angeles on July 8th. At first, the task seemed simple enough: go back home for a couple of weeks, visit some cousins and then attend a mini-reunion with high school and grade school friends that I hadn’t seen in more than 25 years. Seemed easy but like most of you, the thought of spending time with people who could hardly say they ‘knew me when…’ was giving me stomach aches.

Adventure and Travel

When people are asked what they would do if they had all the money in the world, they usually answer travel. Yet, most people in the world barely leave the county where they grew up. There are individuals in this world who have never crossed a state line and have no intention on leaving the area. Adventure and exploration is something you watch on TV where the people are stuck on islands or forced to eat grubs to survive. Where meeting a new culture is the stuff of nightmares that conjure up burnt buildings, unintelligible gibberish and pagans. If you haven’t figured it out yet, this ain’t us.

Old School Lightening

Another Friday in CoupleDumb and we need to wrap up our week of Lightening Up! As we write this, we are getting ready for a trip back to the mother land. We live in Miami but both of us were born and raised in good old Southern California. We met and fell in love in Torrance to be exact. We even attended the same high school but didn’t know each other since we were both going through some serious teenage angst during that time. Since those awful days, we have evolved and grown into different human beings. Tomorrow we will be at a reunion with our classmates from long ago and we think we can safely say we are scared shitless.

I am water.

As we wind up our two week therapy rant, we would like to highlight a couple of good points: you model healthy behavior for your kids, going to therapy can be fun, Paul is a hippy-angel, L. Ron Hubbard created a religion because he was bitter and everyone can benefit from a stint on the couch. Now it’s Lee’s turn to show her freaky side and share some of her recent discoveries.

Angels and (personal) demons.

This week’s topic is therapy but before we continue, we need to issue a warning. If you are not accepting of Jungian, hippy, out of body, experiential , subconscious-talking kind of shit or if you are one of our fundamentalist readers who believe that God is a perennial grouch who giveth and taketh in direct proportion to our blind obedience then you might want to stop reading now and check back in tomorrow. We’ll write something funny on Saturday.

SolarQuest

Long ago in a land called California, before the twenty years of marriage and even before the courtship to that marriage, we bought each other the same Christmas gift. It was a cheesy little board game called SolarQuest but for us it was validation of our burgeoning love.
