Mother’s Day And Loss

I have not been a fan of this day since I became a Mom. My first Mother’s Day was marred by crass family members who chose not to wish me a Happy Mother’s Day based on the fact that I was not their Mother. I was young. I was sensitive because we had adopted our daughter after years of infertility and, 21 years ago, adoption was not as common. I didn’t like Mother’s Day and now this year, I dread Sunday. This is my first Mother’s Day since my Mom passed away in February.

You Are Not A Cow So Stop Worrying

The other day we introduced you to how damaging rumination can be. Rumination comes from ruminants. Ruminants are mammals that extract nutrients from plants through fermentation. This is done by chewing, regurgitating and chewing on plants all day long. Yes, rumination is chewing on cud (vomit). It is quite apropos actually. The obsessive nature of thinking the same thoughts and allowing irrational results become the basis for more worrying. Thus, thought begets crazy result which then begets more thoughts about results that you created in the first place. Ultimately, the term is more than appropriate.

Conscious Uncoupling And The Age Myth

Conscious Uncoupling sounds a lot like the premise of an SNL sketch. Even though it is based on Psychodynamic principles and is a responsible way of breaking up, there are still some premises that do not necessarily settle well with reality. One of the reasons that Gwyneth Paltrow gave on her website GOOP for trying Conscious Uncoupling is that people live longer and the idea of a ‘forever’ love is not reasonable. As we grow, we change and so must our relationships. CoupleDumb does not agree.

Conscious Uncoupling

CoupleDumb does not like to discuss the relationship issues of others. Recently, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced that they were separating. This caused a not-so-pretty rush of jokes and chuckling at what is a very sad reality of some relationships. The gist of the joke was that Gwyneth’s perfect marriage was now over. And to add fuel to the fire, they were not just breaking up but they were practicing Conscious Uncoupling. People leaped on this newfangled break up and cast it into the same heap as Gwyneth’s love of kale, Cioppino and juice cleanses. However, there is something to be said about conscious uncoupling; some good, some bad. This week we will take a critical look at this idea and is it worth a try.

Why Men And Women Cheat

Why is someone unfaithful? When people speak of infidelity, we usually look at the affects and aftermath of the deed. We assume that all infidelity is created equally. Men are pigs. Women are whores. Men have needs. Women are frigid. Men are overworked. Women need sex, too! All of these have been bandied about like one-size fits all explanations. However, all of these things are just societal labels that aren’t actual etiologies but just pigeon-holes. Now, to be clear, what we will be outlining here are not excuses for behaviors but starting points from which to start the healing.
